The capacity for spirituality among youth is natural.

“Spirituality is important. If you lost your spirituality, you lost the attraction, you would become only flesh like a messy garlic; every day knocked here and there, eat and do not do work.”
(Female, 13, China)

“I think spirituality is important to everyone.  Maybe there’s a section of people that doesn’t realize they are following that path, but they are spiritual.  And I think everyone has that kind of adaptability in themselves to go into that kind of path to being spiritual.  Maybe the word ‘spiritual’ is more important in some people’s lives, but the whole definition and the concept I think it’s there in everyone.”
(Pune, India)

“I believe that every person has some spirituality within themselves because they believe in something, whatever it is they believe in.”
(Male, Peru)

“Spiritual is how you feel inside, every emotion you express, everything you feel comes from inside, your spirit.  Your feelings, your emotions, all comes from inside.”
(Male, Israel)

“I think that being spiritual is part of your life.”
(Male, 14, South Africa)

“Sometimes I try too hard to find it, and don’t just let it happen and just let it be natural.  Like I try to force it.  And I think my spirituality is better when it just happens.”
(Male, 17, USA)

“Realizing” who you are is spirituality. It’s not discovering myself, because I am already there. It’s getting in touch with that. I mean it’s like I am already whatever it is I am.  But it is getting in touch with whatever it is … Yes, spirituality is ‘being what you are.”
(Pune, India)

“Many people our age deny the existence of God or say, “I’m an atheist.” But at the same time they do believe there’s some force out there, there’s some positive force out there.”
(Pune, India)

“I think a non-spiritual life for some people is a lot easier ‘cuz it gives them an excuse and comfort to do the things that they want to do.”
(Male, 17, U.S.A.)

“Spirituality is important in my life because I want to be at peace with myself.  I’m not spiritual right now because I have a lot of insecurities.  But, yeah, I would like to come to a point in my life where I’m happy with myself."
(Pune, India)

“Actually I fail to understand spirituality.  There are so many different things about spirituality. So I don’t … If I can’t understand spirituality I can’t comment on it.”
(Male, NW India)

“If you don’t know exactly what it is, it’s difficult to be something if you don’t know what it is.”
(Pune, India)

"I don’t even know what spiritual means."
(Female, 12, Peru)

“You can be spiritual and not religious. You can believe there is a soul, a spirit, an essence within a person and yet not believe in God.”
(Female, 13, Peru)

“I believe most of the people my age deny the presence of God – but I think that’s because they are spiritual. They have their faith in something else, something very strong.”
(Pune, India)
